Customer Review: Programmed to Lie
It’s a well known fact that printer companies make the majority of their money on consumables. Well, this product has been designed with an intentional flaw that causes the printer to stop printing when the printer detects low ink. The problem is that when this detection occurs, there is still 50% of the ink remaining in the cartridge. It’s extremely frustrating. I would not recommend this product to anybody.

There is a metal bar right across the middle under the glass that makes scanning impossible. None of the documents tell me how to move it. Any ideas? Otherwise it’s pointless.

Customer Review: Doesn’t like envelopes
I purchased two of these printers one new and one refurbished. Both do an excellent job of printing on plain paper. My only complaint is that the only way to print envelopes is one at a time using the manual feed slot at the front of the unit. It is difficult to get the manual feed mechanism to grab the envelope and when it does it usually doesn’t feed straight so that the printing on the envelope is skewed and if you try to print a return address it usually only prints a partial because of the feed problem. Not recommended if you plan to print envelopes for mass mailings. I have given up trying to print envelopes on this printer. I’ve wasted a lot of envelopes. If the manual feed worked properly I would have rated this printer 4 star.

Customer Review: Very happy with this printer
If you just want your printing to be done really fast, save trees by printing on both sides of the paper, and not have to bother with constant cartidge replacement, this is it. I have two, one new, one refurbished. The refurbished one does make loud clicking noises, but it does not affect performance. The toner cartridge lasts a very long time -a year for me, with 100+ pages of daily printing. Costco shipped replacement cartridges for free, and they came with postage-paid recycling envelopes.

I purchased the Brother HL-4070CDW in December of 2007. It has been one problem after another since. Today I tried to install the lastest drum they sent. They admitted the previous drums were defective. Now this new one will not even fit in the printer.

Customer Review: Impressive feature set
I had a 3-year-old HP all-in-one that has been the shared household printer for 4 users. It finally went south on me and when i went to replace it i saw the MFC-6490CW at the local Staples … actually my wife pointed it out to me. I have always needed a large format printer and a fax readily available which meant having two machines. This beauty eliminates the need for them. I took me less than two hours to set it up and get the drivers installed on an XP desktop, a Vista laptop, and XP laptop and a Linux laptop [Ubuntu 8.04] all using a WiFi connection. Brother really has their act together offering the Linux drivers, too.

I didn’t actually buy the printer from Amazon. I bought this hulking device at Office Depot because it came with a $100 rebate. But the overall list price is definitely worth it. I mostly got it because it has a large area scanner that I need for my pencil work.
